SimbiontRM is a powerful .dso for rendering DarkTree procedural textures and materials in RendermanSimbiontRM is free and there are lots of shader files you can download from this site and around the internet.

 Shaders

Many textures and materials are available for SimbiontRM through the DarkTree Repository.  These darktree files are loaded by the SimbiontRM .dso which then calculates the procedural and passes data back to your Renderman shader. A Python script is included which will take a shader template plus a darktree file and insert the correct code for evaluating your shader.

  • .dsts - Material shader files include color, bump, specular, and other shading information.
  • .dstc, .dstp, .dstb - Raw 3D color, percent, and bump procedurals.

If you like the results, consider buying DarkTree so you can design your own shaders. SimbiontRM supports DarkTree 2.5’s componont plugin API so you can easily add new procedurals to SimbiontRM (using C++).

 System Requirements

SimbiontRM requires very little memory but plenty of CPU power.

  • A Renderman compatible renderer with .dso support.
  • Windows 2000, XP Professional.
    We are considering a Linux port of SimbiontRM if there is enough demand. Please contact august@darksim.com if you are interested.
  • Intel compatible processor at 500MHz minimum (2Ghz recommended).
