This Etruscan vase is unofficially dated 5th century B.C.  It was found many years ago off the west central coast of Italy, near a village that was formally an old Etruscan port city.

For this texture challenge, we’ve provided two large images - the main image and another that shows the bumps (worm casings) to better advantage. I know the holiday season is a busy time for everyone.  Still, I hope at least some of you DarkTree Users will find the time to give this texture a try.
Note: Due to space considerations, I have had to delete the large jpg files from this page!

Here is Alain Bertrand’s vase texture. The following is “lifted” from his email.

For the description: This time it was pretty strait forward, I stared with the worm tubes on the surface and added spots with the fractal component. Once I have done all the color work, I worked on the bump map. With the help of the color picker it was really not that difficult. I don't know why but the potato was really more difficult for me.”   Alain

I should have started with the potato...this vase texture is hard! Attached is my not-so-great attempt at this months challenge. Maybe you guys can use parts of it to make something better.”

hears what I got so far for the Vase Shadier. It's close to being done, think I need to thin the bump out some may be.”
Rorr Kon

“Rorr Kon is the master of subtle texture colors.  I rather like
his worm casings too.  Using the Scratches component - it’s
harder to thin out the number of worm casings. At least it is
for me.”

Well, here’s my texture. I’ve been pounding on it for some time, and it’s difficult to stop because I’m not completely satisfied. I used some of Sky’s bump tree as a base.  I found this one rather challenging.”

This is my first effort at doing a scene, but such as it is - here it is.    Alain Bertrand very kindly offered his vase model for the final scene. Since I was also learning to create models in Cinema 4D, I included both his vase model and mine.  Alain’s is the upside down one. Since these amphora are under water, the colors are more faded than those assigned to the DarkTrees.
Thanks to Alain and Rorr Kon for sending in DarkTrees. I like both. Each of the amphora textures are unique. That’s what I love - the individual interpretations.
I thought this texture challenge was difficult.  And I never did come up with a texture I really liked.

Comments anyone?
