Greetings!

This page and its links are reserved for those of you who would enjoy a monthly group texture challenge. We won’t select a winner per se, but I will post all images and comments that you send me for the current challenge texture . You’ll be able to get the .dsts files of other participants as well.

While DarkTree is an easy program to use - it’s not so easy to master. The things that contribute most to becoming a master texture creator, at least in my opinion, are (1) a bag o’ tricks that have proven useful in the past and (2) the ability to think “outside the box”. Both of these things can be learned, and that’s where this page is intended to help.

I invite everyone to give the texture challenge a try.

How to Participate

You can submit a texture in two ways:

  • If you are a member of the DarkTree Mailing List, you can use that venue.  Send your .dsts file, and I’ll put your texture image and name on the current challenge page (see link below), along with any comments you want to add.  Just be sure to put Texture Challenge for your mail subject line. You can join the mailing list here.
  • If you prefer not to join the DarkTree Mailing List, you can send your texture to my mail account - grimalkn@darksim.com  Again, put Texture Challenge on the subject line, so I’ll know.

To submit a texture for a challenge, one that has always interested you for instance, just attach a hi-res .jpg file to a short message and send it to my personal mail account - grimalkn@darksim.com                                     questions?

MAY 2003 TEXTURE CHALLENGE

The Challenge page will be taking a break this month while we revamp the entire Darkling Simulations website in preparation for introducing DarkTree 2.5. We are considering moving the Challenge pages to a forum format as well.

Note 4/21/03: I am going to start purging some of the older challenge files - since we’re running out of space.  However, you can still see everyone’s older DarkTree files and images.
